Dead Horse point!

Next stop on the trip, right next to Canyonlands, is Dead Horse Point State Park.

Dead Horse Point view

Unsurprisingly, a similar landscape to its neighbour, but with the Colorado River winding its way through the canyons.

Dead Horse Point and river

There are several legends relating to the name of Dead Horse Point so I won’t pretend to know the answer but the common thread is that horses were corralled to this point at the top of the 2000 ft drop and for one reason or another, either died of starvation or jumped to the river below.

Looking North East, the La Sal Mountain Range appears to be floating in the sky like an island. An amazing sight especially when brought closer with a 400mm lens attached to the camera.

What a landscape. A very popular location too, it seems, to get married. Two services were being conducted while we were there.
